PHL217: LOSS - 2024 Term 3
Schopenhauer once said that life was a series of losses. Like all philosophical claims, it is three quarters true. A good deal of western literature, starting with the story of Adam and Eve losing their Eden home, is replete with narratives that deal with the subject. Today there is talk of losing our own garden home—the planet. This series of three lecturers will traverse the theme of loss—that “dark underpinning of our lives”—looking at everything from the loss of hopes and dreams to the loss of love, innocence and life itself. • Please choose one of the payment options below. • Unwaged includes students, seniors retirees and unemployed. • All prices are in New Zealand dollars and GST inclusive.
