Description:

  • Our Introductory Hebrew language classes begin with learning the printed version of Hebrew in the first Term and focus on conversation and basic introductory grammar. Subsequent Terms enforce reading and writing in Hebrew and concentrate on learning basic Hebrew grammar, increasing vocabulary, and reading and writing practice. Our Hebrew classes emphasise literacy (for those interested in Biblical Hebrew) and conversation (for those interested in learning to speak modern Hebrew).

  • Introductory Hebrew 101 classes are for beginners with no knowledge of spoken or written Hebrew. During this Term we focus on learning to read printed Hebrew (עִבְרִית), while focusing on basic conversation, elementary grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing.

  • Our First Term Introductory course begins with learning to write printed Hebrew (עִבְרִית), writing and reading practice, and includes basic introductory grammar and conversation. The Second Term course (Hebrew 102) continues with printed Hebrew reading and writing practice, and with introductory grammar, vocabulary, and conversation.

Meet our Instructor

Hebrew Instructor Shelly Tenembaum

Shalom, my name is Shelly. I was born in Romania, lived in Israel and now I live in Auckland with my family. I am multilingual with a diverse background and a range of skills and experiences. Throughout my life I mastered four languages and am proficient in two more. I worked in various organizations to impart my knowledge of the Hebrew language. Additionally, I established and managed a Hebrew school in Auckland. I continue my involvement in tutoring the Hebrew language and I am passionate for education and commitment to help others learn. In addition to my linguistic pursuits, my background in Chemistry demonstrates scientific expertise and analytical thinking. My experience in the banking industry further highlights the versatility and adaptability in different professional settings. One of my notable passions is baking. As an accomplished baker, I established recently my own business "Baked Goodness." My creations are highly sought after by connoisseurs of Jewish and Eastern European baking, as well as individuals in search of specialty baked goods and designing customised cakes. My dedication to craft and attention to detail are evident in the quality of the baked goods. I have a structured student-centric approach, integrated with my diverse background and skills. These contribute to my success as an educator and a baker. Le’hitraot in the next Hebrew course!
