Description:

Dutch 204: Intermediate Dutch, Part 4

  • • This is Part 4 of a four-part Intermediate course over 4 school terms specifically designed for continuing Dutch learners. Our language and culture courses focus on teaching and learning only, and we do not expect you to study outside of class nor do we assign homework. Come and spend 12 class hours per Term (eight 1.5 hour weekly classes) learning Dutch and and about Dutch culture, and have some fun too! All of our language classes are designed for busy people.

  • • Our Intermediate Dutch 204 course, Part 4, continues on from Introductory Dutch 101-104 and Intermediate Dutch 201-203 with additional conversation, vocabulary and grammar with an emphasis on speaking and listening comprehension. During subsequent Terms (Intermediate Dutch 301-304 and beyond) we continue to emphasise spoken Dutch, grammar and new vocabulary, as well as add additional reading and comprehension exercises. Learning about Dutch culture is an integral a part of our study.

  • • Subsequent Term courses continue with Intermediate Dutch (i.e. our Dutch 301-304 courses and beyond, towards Advanced Dutch 401+) and continue to include additional reading and comprehension practice, grammar, vocabulary, and conversation and will continue in the same time slot for the duration of the full course.

Course curriculum:

Week by week new material will be posted throughout the duration of the course. Video recordings of each weekly session will be posted here 1-2 days after each class.

Meet our Instructor

Dutch, German & Japanese Instructor Hein Laaper

I was born in Utrecht, Netherlands, but have lived most of my life in New Zealand. I graduated from the University of Waikato, also completing my Diploma of Teaching, after which I studied for one year at the University of Gõttingen, Germany, and later completing different courses in Tokyo and Osaka. I am presently a registered NZ teacher having taught for over 40 years in the NZ Secondary School System, mainly Japanese and German. Over the years I have also been involved in the Continuing Education programmes in Hamilton in German and Dutch. My interests are traveling, gardening, architecture and good food.

  • Detailed instructions on how to access our distance learning components will be sent after completing your registration. There are no additional fees for this service. However, distance learners will need access to a desktop or laptop computer with a good quality web-camera (tablet devices and mobile phones can also access our live-streamed classes), a built-in microphone (most modern laptops have built-in microphones) or a headset with a microphone. You will also need to download and install the free Zoom software on your computer or device. Those accessing the video recordings will be able to do so with a simple web browser on any device.

Pricing options:

All prices in NZ dollars and includes GST. Unwaged includes students, seniors and retirees.

Notes:

Those who cannot make the class meeting day and time via live Zoom sessions may consider accessing this course through the weekly recorded video sessions.
